Oregano is a perennial herb of the mint family and is native to the Mediterranean region from where it spread throughout the world. Made popular by American-Italian cuisine (read pizza), oregano is now used as a herb in so many cuisines around the world. Many subspecies and strains of oregano have been developed whose taste ranges from spicy or astringent to more complicated and sweet. Oregano is planted in early spring and prefers a hot, relatively dry climate. Harvest can be expected in about 2 months from sowing.
