Cowpea beans is one of the most important legume crop in semi-arid tropics of Asia, Africa and southern Europe as they are highly tolerant to drought and warm weather. Their origins can be traced back to western Africa where it has been in cultivation since atleast 5,000 years. Cowpeas are a rich source of protein and calories. They can be grown in early spring and in monsoons, and are ready to harvest in 2 months from sowing. Growing them is also beneficial for the soil because they fix a lot of nitrogen into the soil for the next crop. We love fixing ourselves a simple curry of cowpeas with rotis; what about you?
