Broccoli is the edible green plant in the cabbage family whose large flowering head is eaten as a vegetable. It was first bred in the northern Meditteranean region in 6th century BC. Apart from its very high nutrition value, broccoli is the fifth most favourite food of people around the world. It goes perfectly in Italian cuisine, especially in baked dishes and pastas. It is a cool weather crop and grows best when exposed to average daily temperatures between 18-23 degrees C. It is harvested before the flowers on the head bloom bright yellow.
